La Malagueña (Girl from Malaga)

The "mariachi" is a type of musical group, originally from Mexico. The mariachi sound is a mixture of Spanish, native and African traditions and differs from region to region within Mexico. In southeastern Mexico, the "son huasteco" or "huapango" evolved and often included a flute as part of the standard ensemble. This style is reflected in songs such as La Malagueña and Serenata Huasteca.

La Malaguena has lyrics written by Pedro Galindo and music by Elpidio Ramirez. It is a song dedicated to a girl from Malaga: “¡Qué bonitos ojos tienes, debajo de esas dos cejas,...” (What pretty eyes you have, under those two eyebrows,...)
